TIPS

Increase your RAM and so system speed
1)Start any application, say Word. Open some large documents.

2) Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open Windows Task Manager and click Processes tab and sort the list in descending order on Mem Usage. You will notice that WINWORD.EXE will be somewhere at the top, using multiple MBs of memory.

3)Now switch to Word and simply minimize it. (Don't use the Minimize All Windows option of the task bar).

4)Now go back to the Windows Task Manager and see where WINWORD.EXE is listed. Most probably you will not find it at the top. You will typically have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find Word. Now check out the amount of RAM it is using. Surprised? The memory utilization has reduced by a huge amount.

5)Minimize each application that you are currently not working on by clicking on the Minimize button & you can increase the amount of available RAM by a substantial margin. Depending upon the number and type of applications you use together, the difference can be as much as 50 percent of extra RAM.
In any multitasking system, minimizing an application means that it won't be utilized by the user right now. Therefore, the OS automatically makes the application use virtual memory & keeps bare minimum amounts of the code in physical RAM.

Best Tips How to Secure Your Black Berry Phone

  • Device Password: The simplest way to block any unauthorized activity on BlackBerry is to make use of password protection. A convenient looking password must be set depending on one’s choice and must be entered every time the phone is switched on. A BlackBerry in hand is supposed to be always switched on. Consequently, setting a password doesn’t become any sort of burden because most of the time the BlackBerry phone of users is always connected and password needs not to be entered that much frequently. Even in case of handset getting misplaced, one can be assured that important data and information is safe. For setting a password, one can follow up to the “Options” menu and then go to “General Settings” in the “Security Options”.
  • Do Not Lose It: Another very simple tip is to take proper care of your handheld and try to be on the safe side and not getting it misplaced. Due to the optimal size and weight characteristics of BlackBerry phones, they are much prone to get misplaced. Quite often people do not even know and loose their phones in taxis and other places. Therefore, a bit more attention must be given to prevent phones slipping out.
  • Content Encryption: BlackBerry phones come with an important security tool known as content encryption. By default settings, this option is deactivated. For confidential data protection, this advanced encryption tool is used to save data in encrypted format rather than as raw data. Raw data saved on device’s memory is liable to be accessed by Crackers in case one looses possession to his/her handset either temporarily or permanently. For activating this option, one can follow up to the “Options” menu and then go to “General Settings” in the “Security Options”.
  • Media Card/ SD – Card Encryption: This is an important consideration for those who install a media card in their BlackBerry phones. In order to protect personal data, encryption mode must be enabled for the BlackBerry’s internal SD card. For activating this option, one can follow up to the “Options” menu and then go to “Memory Card” in the “Advanced Options”.
How to create a shortcut for locking the Computer Screen in Windows 7?

There are many ways in which you can lock the computer screen. The most popular as well as the fastest way to lock it is to use a keyboard shortcut. The keyboard shortcut used to lock the computer screen is Win+L. A few of us choose to utilize the mouse to lock it.
And of course many people like to use both the options.
There is another method in which we can lock the computer screen. It is to create a shortcut for locking the computer screen in Windows 7. You can create a shortcut for locking the computer screen in Windows 7, XP and Vista too. Follow these steps in order to create a shortcut for locking the computer screen in Windows 7 as well as other editions:
1)Right-click on the desktop where you would like to create the shortcut.
2)Point to New.

4)Type in this text in the shortcut textbox. (This text will work for Windows XP as well even though the screen will be different)
rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation

5)Click on the Next button.
6)Type in a name for your shortcut.
7)Click on the Finish button.
8)You have successfully created a shortcut to lock your workstation. Just click on the shortcut whenever you want to lock the computer screen.

Creating the Customized Run Command

Let me take up an example of how to create a customized run command for opening the Internet explorer. Once you create this command, you should be able to open the Internet explorer just by typing “ie” (without quotes) in the Run dialog box. Here is how you can do that.
1. Right click on your Desktop and select New -> Shortcut.
2. You will see a “Create Shortcut” Dialog box as shown below
3. Click on “Browse”, navigate to: Program Files -> Internet Explorer from your Root drive (usually C:\) and select “iexplore” as shown in the above figure and click on “OK”.
4. Now click on “Next” and type any name for your shortcut. You can choose any name as per your choice; this will be your customized “Run command”. In this case I name my shortcut as “ie”. Click on “Finish”.
5. You will see a shortcut named “ie” on your desktop. All you need to do is just copy this shortcut and paste it in your Windows folder (usually “C:/Windows”). Once you have copied the shortcut onto your Windows folder, you can delete the one on your Desktop.
6. That’s it! From now on, just open the Run dialog box and type ie and hit Enter to open the Internet Explorer.
In this way you can create customized Run commands for any program of your choice. To do this, when you click on “Browse” in the Step-3, just select the target program’s main executable (.exe) file which will usually be located in the C:\Program Files folder. Give a simple and short name for this shortcut as per your choice and copy the shortcut file onto the Windows folder as usual. Now just type this short name in the Run dialog box to open the program.

How do I enable the sleep timer to put the computer to sleep if a program is open?

For your requirement, you want to put the computer automatically to sleep while applications are running. Is that right?

As I know, there is no such option in Windows Vista. While computer is sleeping, all open documents and programs stop working. Putting your computer to sleep is like pausing a DVD player: the computer immediately stops what it's doing and is ready to start again when you want to resume working. If you want to save your power with applications still running, you can take the following steps.

1.Click the Start menu, and click Control Panel
2.Click Hardware and Sounds, and click Power Options.
3.Check high performance, and then click change plan settings.
4.Tell the computer when you want the monitor turned off and then make the setting "when you want the computer sleep" as never.
5.Once set, click Save changes.

Hope this helps.
